KAL Announces Availability of the
Kalignite EMV Kernel for ATMs
24 March 2004 - Press Release
Edinburgh, UK - KAL is pleased to announce the certification
and immediate availability of the Kalignite EMV Kernel for
use on ATMs, Kiosks and all self-service / branch teller systems.
The Kalignite EMV Kernel is an application component running
on KAL's Kalignite Software Platform making it fully multi-vendor
and usable on all EMV "level-1" compliant Automated Teller
Machine (ATM) hardware.
Steve Hensley, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales
for KAL said, "This announcement illustrates our commitment
to continuously enhance the Kalignite software suite to support
important standards like EMV. EMV-enabled ATMs will significantly
reduce card-based fraud and will enhance the security of ATM
transactions".
EMV is a worldwide standard for using smartcards along with
a PIN number to secure ATM and POS transactions. Sometimes
known as the "chip and PIN" initiative, EMV will be the standard
way of executing ATM and POS transactions in Europe and many
other countries from the beginning of 2005.
KAL's development partners can incorporate the Kalignite
Software Platform along with the Kalignite EMV Kernel into
the software solutions they provide to their customers greatly
reducing the time it takes to implement EMV compliant systems.
Alternatively KAL provides Kalignite Applications that are
integrated with the Kalignite EMV Kernel and are built upon
the Kalignite Software Platform.
The Kalignite EMV Kernel was awarded Level 2 Type Approval
by EMVCo LLC on 28th January 2004 following successful testing against the EMV
2000 Specification (Version 4.0) including all "EMV Errata".
