Kalignite NDC Application
NDC (NCR Direct Connect) is an ATM software application protocol to deliver optimum functionality for ATMs.
The NDC system is one of the most widely used ATM communication protocols in existence. The Kalignite NDC protocol enables the host to retain the existing infrastructure and have more flexibility with ATM configuration.
NDC Protocol
The NDC Host is often referred to as the NDC Central, NDC Switch or NDC Device Handler. The NDC Download comprises NDC States, NDC Screens and NDC FITs which control the cardholder interface and transaction options.
The NDC State controls the information that is gathered from the card and cardholder during transactions. When a state is entered, it designates which action the terminal performs, displays an appropriate screen and exits to the appropriate next state.
The NDC Screen comprises a series of characters which determine what is displayed and where it is displayed on the screen.
The NDC FIT (Financial Institution Table) determines the processing options for the card inserted. In the NDC Download there is a FIT for each institution supported on the network. When a card is inserted each FIT is checked to see if it has a matching Financial Institution Number and when one is found, that FIT is used for subsequent processing. An index number in the FIT is used to determine which NDC State to run next which effectively determines which transaction options are given to the cardholder.
Kalignite NDC is a complete NDC ATM application, able to support all legacy transactions with existing ATM NDC Host infrastructures. It is available for rapid deployment with minimal effort, cost and maintenance.

Kalignite NDC software is a Web-Enabled ATM Application, allowing advertisements and CRM content to be 'overlaid' onto previously fixed NDC Screens. These displays can be placed anywhere suitable within the transaction flow and are managed independently from the transaction screens. OEMs can extend and customize the application themselves to suit their own specific requirements.
Kalignite NDC is able to alter the normal flow of the downloaded NDC States to provide new features to existing transactions. Similarly NDC Customisation like this can provide new transactions such as mobile phone top-up, ticketing, reservations and other e-commerce transactions which can interact with alternative hosts and web servers. This is all done without changes to the NDC Host.
Kalignite NDC also has a local ATM solution for the management problem of Mulitple Downloads (i.e. Mini Downloads or NDC Download Groups) required for different ATM models and for when ATM devices become unavailable because of faults or exhausted media supplies. It means ultimately that the NDC Host need only maintain one download.
Kalignite NDC Customisation can also be used to track any NDC Host changes outside the scope of the NDC specification.
Kalignite NDC Supervisor incorporates the standard set of supervisor functions maintaining the function number and formats that are famous worldwide.
Kalignite NDC is a genuine Multivendor ATM Application. Together with Kalignite Advanced ATM Application (K3A) it is built on the Kalignite Software Platform and is therefore fully capable of running on any ATM hardware from any vendor.
