China Construction Bank has opened China’s very first completely unmanned branch in the city of Shanghai.
At the ground-breaking branch, which opened its doors on April 9, customers entering the building are identified by face recognition gates and security cameras. Once inside, they are approached by a bank lobby robot that finds out what service they require and points them in the direction of the appropriate smart teller machine. These machines can handle 90% of cash and non-cash transactions, but if a customer has a more complex transaction to complete, they can use remote assisted service to access one-to-one help.
And China’s first unattended branch is more than just a bank: it also acts as a library with 50,000 books that customers can scan onto their phone, a games hall with virtual reality headsets and includes a smart vending machine that provides customers with free drinks.
